Armenia to start exporting sugar to Iran soonOctober 23, 2010 - 15:25 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On October 23, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited the sugar mill in Akhuryan as part of his working visit to Shirak region. The mill will process both semi-products from the South America and local sugar beet. 17,000t of semi-products for sugar production have been imported up to date. The mill construction started in 2006, while the investments for its construction totaled $102mln. The mill equipment is basically produced in the Czech Republic and some equipment was delivered from German, Denmark, France, Ukraine and Russia. Georgia has already purchased 1.5t of granulated sugar. Negotiations are conducted with Iran. The mill produces 800t of sugar per day, out of which 90t make the domestic market demand. Director of the mill Eduard Sargsyan told journalists that the mill can produce 350-400t of sugar annually, if it operates at ultimate capacity. Currently, 700 people are employed at the mill.
