Tbilisi to host regional conference on sustainable land managementNovember 10, 2010 - 18:57 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On November 18-19, 2010 REC Caucasus organizes the First Regional Conference in the frames of the ongoing EU supported Project “Sustainable Land Management for Mitigating Land Degradation and Reducing Poverty in the South Caucasus Region” in Tbilisi. Overall objective of the conference is to bring together all participant countries, stakeholders, experts and representatives of mass media to share achievementsand developments, as well as emphasize main trends to achieve the best results and ensure sustainability of the project, REC Caucasus reported. The project calls forcontinued functioning ecosystem, reducingpoverty, ensuring food security and income for rural farmers in the South Caucasus countries by combating desertification, strengthening the natural resource base and revitalizing the agricultural sector. The conference will be attended by representatives of ministries of environment, governmental legislative branches and structures dealing with land management, as well as international and donor organizations, NGOs, academic circles, business sector, local communities and other stakeholders from Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. The regional conference will be followed by a working meeting to review and evaluate execution and development of the project and elaborate further steps for better coordination and implementation.
