Leandro Despouy: Genocide is an irrefutable fact, recognition of which should become a crucial issue worldwide

PanARMENIAN.Net - On December 15, Armenian parliamentary speaker Hovik Abrahamyan met with an Argentinean human rights lawyer, United Nations Special Rapporteur Leandro Despouy, participating in Yerevan-hosted The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, Condemnation and Elimination of Consequences scientific conference.

At the meeting, the parties gave high assessment to Armenia-Argentine relations, emphasizing the importance of bilateral interparliamentary ties.

Mr. Despouy, in turn, noted that Argentine’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide promoted establishment of closer ties between the nations. The Argentinean human rights lawyer characterized the Genocide as an irrefutable fact, noting that its recognition should become a crucial issue worldwide.

The parties also dwelled on Karabakh conflict settlement issues, stressing the importance of its settlement based on the principle of nations’ right for self determination, non-use of force and territorial integrity, parliamentary press service reported.
