CoE Secretary General warns against new war in KarabakhPanARMENIAN.Net - Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland said that the situation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone can go beyond control, following the frequent ceasefire violations at the line of contact. “The ceasefire violations that result in loss of life can have the worst consequences. Joining the Council of Europe, Armenia and Azerbaijan undertook to peacefully resolve the conflict. And I am hopeful that there will be no further tensions,” he said. Mr. Jagland emphasized that negotiations are beyond the CoE competence but the organization is willing to make every possibly contribution to establishment of peace and the rule of law. Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
