AZERI POLITICIAN DISCLOSES DETAILS OF AGREEMENTS OF KOCHARIAN AND ALIEV

Head of the Party of Civil Unity (PCU) of Azerbaijan, Igbal Agazade told CNA agency today that at the meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Key West a verbal agreement was achieved on the principles of peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

Agazade told CNA that according to these agreements, 6 Azeri regions are going to be freed, including Shushi and 5 contiguous villages, where the inhabitants of 56 settlements, including Khodzhali will be accommodated.

According to him, the road, linking Shushi and Fizuli region, will be restored and passed to international control. Lachin region is given the status of linking corridor, where international peacekeeping units will be stationed. From Lachin, Agazade said, a special road to Kelbajar will be opened. The Azeri side demands the creation of a corridor similar to that of Lachin, on the territory of Meghri region of Armenia, to join with Nakhichevan, however the outlines aren't yet determined. At the same time, according to the information of the Azeri politician, the Armenian side is not willing to give Meghri corridor to international peacekeeping units, motivating this by the closeness of Iranian and Turkish borders.

Agazade said also that under the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh is allowed to have National Guards and become a free economic zone. At the same time, Gadrut, Askeran, Stepanakert and 2 other regions of the former Nagorno-Karabakh autonomous region will remain under the Armenian community's control.

"If there is no change of power in Armenia, the verbal agreement may be put down during the talks in Geneva, however, Kocharian's opponents may use this fact to displace him from the post of the president," Azeri politician stated. --0--
