Residents of Khrakh-Uba enclave demand to recognize the village as Russia’s partFebruary 8, 2011 - 20:21 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Residents of Khrakh-Uba village located on the territory of Azerbaijani held a rally in Makhachkala, demanding protection of their rights as Russian citizens. “Azerbaijan demands from the village residents that they immediately accept Azerbaijani citizenship, otherwise threatening with deportation without compensation for property and land that is categorically unacceptable for us. We apply to the authorities of Russia and Dagestan, asking them to secure protection of the constitutional rights of the residents of Khrakh-Uba enclave; to stop deportation of the enclave residents and to reunify families, to provide them with the opportunity of unhindered crossing of the state border; and to recognize Khrakh-Uba as a Russian territory,” reads the rally resolution, according to Interfax. Bekmurza Bekmurzayev, a minister in charge of national, religious and foreign affairs in Dagestan's government, told journalists after the rally that problems of the village residents are solved at the highest level. “Taking into consideration the current situation, instructions were given to settle the situation with the residents of Khrakh-Uba and Uryan-Uba within the framework of the international legal norms. Several options have been offered, they will be considered by the Russian and Azerbaijani parties, taking into account the residents’ opinion. The villages residents should make a decision and accept one of the options,” said Bekmurzayev. As part of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Azerbaijan on September 3, 2010, a treaty on state border and intergovernmental agreement on efficient usage and protection of water resources of Samur River were signed in Baku.
