 Azerbaijani expert: superpowers not interested in Karabakh conflict’s escalation into a war February 25, 2011 - 20:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijani political analyst Zardusht Alizadeh said that the basic goal of superpowers is to prolong the current status-quo in the Karabakh conflict. Commenting on the March 5 trilateral meeting among the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents in Sochi and current activity of international mediators and OSCE Minsk Group for the Karabakh conflict resolution, Alizadeh said: “Russia, the U.S. and other actors have their own interests in our region. As for the Karabakh conflict, they have only one goal – to keep it frozen. The conflict’s escalation into a military phase is not within the interests of superpowers, as the situation will become uncontrollable in such case, carrying many risks. Both Russia and the U.S. want to prevent a military conflict and voice their concern over the possibility of events’ similar development in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict,” 1news.az quoted Alizadeh as saying. He added that he does not expect a breakthrough at the upcoming trilateral meeting in Sochi.
