Armenian parliament to elect new Ombudsman March 2

PanARMENIAN.Net - On March 2, the RA National Assembly will elect Armenia’s new Ombudsman.

Speaker Hovik Ambrahamyan said that 48 members of the parliament nominated Karen Andreasyan for this post.

Early in February Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan resigned his position, having submitted the resignation letter to the National Assembly. As Harutyunyan stated, he accepted the position of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Representative in Central Asia.

RA Ombudsman is elected by the National Assembly by 3/5 of the total number of votes out of the candidates nominated by at least 1/5 of the NA members for a six-year term.
