Turks request Obama to send them Nowruz greetings

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. Azerbaijani and Turkish Diasporas initiated a new campaign, having sent hundreds of letters to President Barack Obama. In their letters to Obama, the Diaspora representatives requested the U.S. President to mention Turkic nations in his traditional Nowruz greetings.

The letter says, “all Turks, be it in the Caucasus or Central Asia, celebrate Nowruz. As a rule, Nowruz is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, on March 21. Nowruz is the official holiday of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. However, for some reasons, Azerbaijani, Turkish and other Turkic nations were left out of U.S. greetings on occasion of Nowruz during 2006-2010. This ancient celebration does not only apply to Iran and Persian American Society. We call on Obama to include Azerbaijan and Turkey in his greetings.”

Well, the letter is pretty impressive, especially in the light of the fact that vernal equinox is celebrated not only by Turks and Persians, as the representatives of the Diasporas aim to persuade the U.S. administration, but also by other nations. The day was celebrated by all pagans, who connected March 21 with the coming of spring. Muslims stayed true to the holiday. However, it’s different with Turkic tribes. The nomads do not and couldn’t have any holidays. The holidays celebrated in the countries indicated in the letter are a mere tribute to fashion, similar to pilgrimage to Mecca.

Rather, the matter is that Azerbaijanis, who’re used to rewriting the history to suit their needs and , to some degree, Turkey are concerned over not having contributed to the formation and development of the U.S., in contrast to Armenians. This is how the request is explained. Whether the U.S. administration will satisfy it is another matter. If it’s Iran the administration wishes to send its greetings to, then everything is right. If Turks are mentioned in Obama’s greetings, that means that U.S. administration is continuing with catastrophic leadership of Bush junior, as Zbigniew Brzezinski put it.
