Baku gets to absurdity: a positive film about Armenians banned in AzerbaijanMarch 7, 2011 - 20:37 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Following the film ‘In one southern city’, another film by people’s artist of Azerbaijan, filmmaker Eldar Guliyev – ‘Hostage’ - has been banned in this country. Reportedly, the film screening has been banned by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan. According to another version, the leadership has not liked the film plot – presenting Armenians from a positive side in the film couldn’t be assessed unequivocally, AZE.az reported with reference to ANS TV. One can say that the official propaganda has achieved its goal in Azerbaijan: Armenians are considered in this country to be enemies, who cannot have positive features. Neither the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture, nor the country’s leadership has achieved something new with this ban; they have just proved once again that Baku understands only the language of force, while civilized methods are not for it. It is noteworthy that the filmmaker stated that he has suspended the film screening himself, explaining it by lack of cinemas in the country. The film is dedicated to the Karabakh war. In it, Azerbaijani Kerim becomes a hostage of Armenians. To implement a swap, an Armenian hostage is given to Kerim’s wife. With the lapse of time, she sees that the Armenian also has human features and is in a similar situation. And Baku cannot forgive the filmmaker this very fact: he featured the Armenian as a human being instead of presenting the image that has been imposed on mass consciousness for 20 years.
