Armenian President admits possibility of social riot, oppositionist says

PanARMENIAN.Net - New Times party leader Aram Karapetyan believes that in his recent statement Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan admitted the possibility of a social riot in the country.

“The statement aimed to show that President is aware of the domestic problems and is ready to discuss some of them with the opposition. True, the statement contained some rational elements, but we heard similar statements before and didn’t see any reasonable action,” Karapetyan told journalists on March 14.

According to him, Sargsyan will not venture drastic changes.

“Both the authorities and opposition have to make correct inferences to avoid repeating past mistakes. People can see the line between political aspirations, on the one side, and motherland, statehood and national issues, on the other. I believe no one must turn political goals into an end in itself,” the President said on the sidelines of a conference in Tsaghkadzor.
