EU supports peace efforts for Karabakh conflict resolutionMarch 16, 2011 - 11:20 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Union supports peace efforts for the Nagorno Karabakh resolution to be based on the non-use of force, territorial integrity and the right of nations to self-determination, the European Commission President said. Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan, Jose Manuel Barroso said that the Union hails the OSCE Minsk Group’s continuous endeavors for establishment of lasting peace and neighborly relations in the region. He also voiced concerns about the incidents in the conflict zone. Asked to comment on the Armenian-Turkish relations, Barroso said: “The EU stands ready to facilitate the Armenian-Turkish normalization. We certainly discuss the matter with Turkey, as Armenia still remains blocked. The two countries should take joint initiatives, overcoming difficulties through a civilized dialogue.” Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Authorities said a total of 192 Azerbaijani troops were killed and 511 were wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive. Partner news |
