Egypt schedules legislative election for September

PanARMENIAN.Net - Egypt will hold a legislative election in September, the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces said on Monday, March 28, Reuters reports.

Mamdouh Shaheen, a member of the military council, said in a news conference a date for a presidential election had yet to be set.

Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak has stepped down as president of Egypt on February, after weeks of protest in Cairo and other cities. The anti-government protests that began in January, triggered by widespread unrest in Egypt over unemployment, poverty and corruption. They followed a popular uprising in Tunisia which brought about the downfall of President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.
