 Streetlights of Memory for Armenian Genocide victims to be set in Geneva March 31, 2011 - 14:37 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Recently, a work, titled Streetlights of Memory, dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, was presented at Geneva-hosted news conference. The streetlights to decorate Bastion de Saint-Antoine in April, 2013, were presented by Patrice Mugny, Geneva Administrative Councillor responsible for the culture, and Charles Aznavour, Armenia’s Ambassador to Switzerland. In 2008, the city of Geneva came up with an initiative to build a memorial for Genocide victims, with a French master of Armenian origin, Melik Ohanian to implement the idea. The monument will consist of nine 8-meter streetlights to be established in different parts of the bastion. Instead of the bulb, a gleaming "tear" in frosted stainless steel will be installed, evoking thoughts about tragic events of 1915. Charles Aznavour gave high assessment to the monument that “inspires hope”, and the fact that it will be established in Switzerland, his current homeland. The project financing (100000 and 400000 Francs respectively) will be provided by Geneva and the Armenian community.
