Tbilisi not to recognize Armenian Genocide due to dependence on Turkey, Azerbaijan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said the Georgian authorities will hardly recognize the Armenian Genocide despite calls of Armenian Georgians, taking into consideration the factor of Turkey and Azerbaijan.

“Georgia will hardly recognize the Armenian Genocide in 2011. This country considerably depends on Turkey and Azerbaijan from both economic and political perspectiveс, and their influence plays a significant role in Georgia’s policy,” Melik-Shahnazaryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

Besides, he noted that around 250,000 Azerbaijanis reside in Georgia, and their interests are rather soundly represented in the Georgian parliament.

“It is possible that the Armenian Georgian parliament members will demand on April 24 from the parliament that it observe a one-minute silence to commemorate the Armenian Genocide, but one should not expect something more than it,” concluded Melik-Shahnazaryan.
