DEVELOPMENT OF RELATIONS WITH ARMENIA - ONE OF FOREIGN POLICY PRIORITIES OF SYRIA

"The development and strengthening of relations with Armenia is one of the basic principles in the foreign policy of Syria", the newly appointed Ambassador of Syria Hammed Hasan declared today after presenting his credentials to the president of Armenia Robert Kocharian.

As Mediamax was informed in the press office of the president of Armenia, Hammed Hasan forwarded to Kocharian the greetings of Syrian president Bashar Assad. The Ambassador of Syria stressed that the Armenian community of Syria plays a significant role in the life of the country, and its representatives hold key posts in various structures of Syria.

Robert Kocharian highly assessed Armenian-Syrian relations and noted that in difficult times Syria always gave a helping hand to Armenia. According to president, the friendship of peoples of two countries is historically rooted, and the Armenian diaspora of Syria is significantly promoting its growth.

During the meeting the sides stressed the importance of activization of bilateral economic cooperation. The interlocutors touched upon regional processes and stressed the importance of establishing of peace and stability "in the complex and uneasy region". -0-
