New Times leader doesn’t exclude new war in Karabakh May 23, 2011 - 11:05 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - New Times leader Aram Karapetyan doesn’t exclude resumption of hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh. “Everything trends to a large-scaled war and in order to prevent it the international community wants to enforce the sides to peace,” he told a press conference in Yerevan on May 23. According to him, U.S. and western countries suppose to gain some compromises from Armenia in Karabakh issue in exchange for the opening of Armenian-Turkish border and then to begin discussions on the status of Nagorno Karabakh. He also added that according to Azerbaijani media, Azerbaijan will urge Armenia to return Aghdam and Fizuli at the forthcoming trilateral presidential meeting in June. Karapetyan expressed doubts about possible success of such plans and stressed that Armenian public will oppose to compromises of the kind. “There are forces in the government which are flatly against it, not saying about NKR. Meanwhile, international community wants to combine incompatible things – the principle of territorial integrity and the right of nations to self-determination,” he said.
