Speaker Abrahamyan expects amnesty till Sep. 21

PanARMENIAN.Net - Commenting on the Armenian President’s proposal to announce amnesty, Speaker of the Armenian parliament Hovik Abrahamyan said the society should be pleased with the fact that the country’s President exerts every effort to ease domestic tenseness and establish tolerance.

Abrahamyan recalled it will be the 9th amnesty in Armenia’s history. As for the terms of amnesty, he noted that most likely the amnesty will be effected till September 21, Armenia’s Independence Day.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan offered the National Assembly to announce amnesty dated the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. The President’s suggestion is based on the RA Constitution and Law on National Assembly’s Regulations. The offer is put on the agenda of the current four-day sitting of the parliament. The RA NA Standing Committee for State and Legal Affairs discussed the offer behind close doors and gave a positive conclusion.

Earlier, Sargsyan stated that he can grant pardon to Sasun Mikaelyan and Nikol Pashinyan imprisoned with respect to the March 1 case by May 28, the Day of the First Republic.
