Saakashvili regime is safe, expert believes

PanARMENIAN.Net - Caucasus Institute Director Alexander Iskandaryan is sceptical about the attempts to link Moscow with recent events in Tbilisi.

As he noted at a news conference in Yerevan, “Georgian opposition gained nothing, with rallies having gathered too little participants.”

“There's no threat to Sahakahshvili regime, even considering his low rating in the country,” the expert said, remarking that the opposition is in danger of further weakening its positions because of the authorities' persecutions.

According to Iskandaryan, the West’s position on Georgia and Saakashvili will be conditioned by the country's important geopolitical role in the region. “However, I believe, Georgia will lose some of its authority. Strong power must strive for a consensus. A power, responding with force is a weak one,” he stressed.
