ECR group welcomes Armenian amnestyJune 7, 2011 - 16:16 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The ECR Group strongly welcomed the recent general amnesty adopted by the National Assembly of Armenia on a proposal by President Serzh Sargsyan. “The amnesty follows the start of a promising dialogue between the government and an opposition group, the Armenian National Congress, in a climate of mutual respect,” reads a statement issued on June 6 by Charles Tannock, ECR Spokesman on Foreign Affairs, Board Member of the European Friends of Armenia, and Tomasz Poreba, Standing Rapporteur on Armenia in Committee of Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament. The statement goes on saying: “The ECR encourages all actors to take this opportunity to continue and reinforce this dialogue and thus contribute to the maturing democracy in Armenia, based on the European values. These developments are also in line with the ‘partnership for reform’ which is currently being developed jointly by the European Commission and the Government of Armenia. The ECR calls upon all political forces in Armenia to subscribe to this constructive approach also in the light of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia.” Top stories Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
