40 cases of snakebite injuries annually reported in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Over January-June 2011, 12 people were injured from snake bites, one died against 14 injured last year, according to leading toxicologist of Armenia Mikael Gabrielyan

As the expert told a news conference in Yerevan, 6 out of 12 incidents described occurred in the towns of Sisian and Goris (Syunik province).

Annually, 30-40 cases of injuries from snakebites are reported in Armenia.

By way of a first aid in case of a snakebite the expert recommended to suck the venom out by mouth and spit it out. It's further important to immobilize the bitten area until medical aid arrives. The expert stressed the importance of correct medical assistance, noting that special serums to neutralize a snakebite are available in Armenia.
