John Prescott monitors progress in human rights protection in Armenia![]() June 22, 2011 - 20:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Within the framework of a working visit the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan met with a number of high ranking officials of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. In front of the CoE building the Armenian President was met and greeted by the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Cavusoglu. During the meeting with Cavusoglu, Mr.Sargsyan underlined importance of cooperation between the country and European structures, including PACE. In Strasbourg, the head of the state also met with the PACE Monitoring Co-Rapporteurs on Armenia John Prescott . In the course of the meeting, the collocutors discussed issues of democratic reforms, freedom of word, strengthening of the power of law. Prescott noted that there is a progress in the field of human rights protection and strengthening of democracy in Armenia. Within the framework of the visit the President Sargsyan also met with Thomas Hammarberg, the CoE Commissioner for Human Rights. The Commissioner highly praised cooperation between Armenia and European structures. The Armenian President Sargsyan visited the exhibition of the Armenian photographer Karen Mirzoyan titled Roads. The exhibition opened in the CoE and was dated to the 10th anniversary of Armenia’s affiliation to the Council of Europe, according to the RA President’s press office. ![]() ![]() Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Moscow on April 22 to hold talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
