EUROPEAN COMMISSION SUPPORTS IRAN-ARMENIA GAS PIPELINE

PanARMENIAN.Net - 06.12.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. European Commission's External Relations Director General Faousi Bensarsa stated in Teheran that the European Union (EU) supports gas pipeline from Iran to Armenia, expressing hope that the construction of the pipeline will begin in the near future.

He said the EU attaches importance to environmental protection and given that Armenia is located in a quake prone region, it has proposed that the country's nuclear power plant to stop operation. "Linking gas pipeline to Armenia will reduce the country's energy needs,'' Bensarsa said. -0-
