The expert compared the Arab uprising with the events taking place in the USSR in late 1980s, as result of which the soviet republics declared independence. As to the situation in Iran, Dr. Granmayeh said that the popular movement for democracy and human rights protection continues despite the leadership’s pressure. Azerbaijani authorities report that they have already resettled 3,000 people in the Nagorno-Karabakh town of Stepanakert. On June 10, Azerbaijani President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will leave for Turkey on a working visit.
