The Ukrainian President visiting Turkey stated that his state supports the initiative displayed by Ankara on formation of the Stability Pact in Caucasus. It was the Turkish ex-president Suleyman Demirel who initiated the formation of the Stability Pact in Caucasus. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmitriy Tkach said in May, 2000 in interview to Mediamax: "the Caucasian region is vital for the Ukraine, and we are ready for participation in the establishment of the system of regional security."
