Serge Avedikian’s History of Dogs to be screened at Golden Apricot July 12, 2011 - 14:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Golden Apricot 8th international film festival will host a Yerevan premiere of History of Dogs film by Armenian-born French director Serge Avedikian. “I made a trip to Istanbul to shoot the History of Dogs. The film is a medium through which the history of the city is analyzed. The film is an allusion. I object to direct portrayal of the Armenian Genocide,” Avedikian said. While the modern-day Istanbul is promoted as a European capital of culture, who remembers that thousands of dogs have been exterminated in 1910 for the sake of westernization and progress? In the film, Istanbul residents reflect upon the interactions they have today with the street dogs in their neighborhood. From European downtown to the distant suburbs, the diversity of views illuminate a society in evolution, its contradictions and its dynamics.
