There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the quake, and no tsunami warning was issued. Japanese utility Tepco reported no damage at its Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant. The US Geological Survey said the magnitude-6.4 quake was centered 22 miles below the sea bed in the Pacific Ocean, 257 miles northeast of Tokyo—in the same area where more than 22,000 people were killed or went missing after the March 11 quake and tsunami. The devastating March 11 disaster left about 22,000 people dead or missing and triggered an atomic crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
