16000 domain names registered with .am domain zone

PanARMENIAN.Net - 16000 domain names have been registered with .am domain zone, Internet-Society NGO vice-chairman stated.

However, as Grigor Sahyan told a news conference in Yerevan, the figure indicated is pretty modest compared to Baltic States’ data, with 70-80000 domain names registered.

According to Sahyan, registration at .am domain zone does not require Armenian residency, provided usage rules are observed. “We continue our policy of open registration to make our services available for Diaspora users. Registration with .am domain zone allows tracking of the websites’ work to disallow spread of misinformation,” the NGO chairman noted.

According to an Armenian blogger, information security expert Tigran Kocharyan, 3 websites were recently closed down because of the spread of anti-Armenian information; some others are being closely monitored. Due to bloggers’ efforts, registration terms at .am domain zone were hardened, he said.
