Safrastyan: Turkey, Azerbaijan countries having common interests

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ruben Safrastyan , Director of the Oriental Studies Institute at Armenian National Academy of Sciences, told a press conference July 26 that Turkey did not change its policy regarding Karabakh conflict settlement and continues to support Azerbaijan.

“Relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan cannot be called fraternal; these are countries having common interests. Naturally, Azerbaijan is interested in friendship with a neighbor like Turkey,” the Turkologist said.

Safrastyan is convinced that there are lots of unsolved issues between these two states.

“Particularly, the issue of Nabucco pipeline, which is envisaged for transporting gas from Azerbaijan and Central Asia to Europe. They cannot agree on the price Azerbaijan should set for the gas and on the way Turkey will transport it to Europe,” Director of the Oriental Studies Institute said.
