Youth initiative seeks truth behind issue of Armenia’s historic monuments

PanARMENIAN.Net - We Won’t Keep Silent youth initiative continues addressing the issue of neglected Armenian shrines.

A message, issued by the initiative, attempts to find out an entity responsible for preservation of Armenian cultural heritage, while Holy Etchmiadzin and Armenian Ministry of Culture continue shifting blame on each other.

According to the head of Holy Etchmiadzin information services, Father Vahram Melikyan, “the Catholicos of All Armenians had repeatedly applied to the Agency for Preservation of Monuments at Armenian Ministry of Culture. Holy Etchmiadzin, as well as then-President Robert Kocharian, requested to provide projects and estimates for restoration of cultural monuments. However the appeal was not considered, nor was a project provided.”

To clarify the situation, the youth initiative applied to Ministry of Culture. On August 5, the Ministry issued a statement, denying receipt of any request from Holy Etchmiadzin or Armenian President.

As the initiative noted, one of the two sides is concealing the truth, completely neglecting the necessity of preservation of Armenia’s cultural heritage.
