Alert on glass in Nestle baby food proves virus attack in Russia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The alert on glass contained in Nestle banana baby food which flooded Vkontakte, Facebook, LiveJournal and Twitter during the recent week proved to be a virus attack in the Russian network.

Russian and CIS internet users fervently disseminated the alert saying: “URGENT!!! For all parents, Nestle is asking for everyone to return all BANANA BABY FOOD expiring 2012 because they may contain GLASS. Please copy & paste for all babies safety. Bar code 7613033089 73, EVEN if you are not a parent please help forward this post. You could help save a child!!!”

However, as it turned out, the batch of dangerous Nestle baby food was never dispatched to Russia, according to Lenta.ru.

On August 9, Nestle’s Russian website posted information that the company has really recalled a batch of baby food French manufactured at its plant in Sevares (Asturias) for the “possible presence of pieces of glass.

This was a total of 34,000 units banana baby food for children marketed under the name “banane recette P’tit Pot” with the consumption limit date of October 2012, Nestle said.

The company insisted that such product is sold only in France, so that no other market is affected.

Meanwhile, as Lenta.ru reported, SMM3 consulting company and YouScan system of Russian-language social media monitoring conducted a research and concluded that the first virus alert appeared in one of Mail.ru blogs on August 4 evening. Since August 5, the Nestle brand has been mentioned up to 2000 a day, with half of references being negative.

It is not known yet whether the virus attack was a planned action aimed to damage the nutrition company or it was spread involuntarily.
