ARMENIAN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SPEAKER: "I AM GLAD THE PARLIAMENT TRUSTED ME"

PanARMENIAN.Net - 28.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "I have stressed in all my speeches the necessity of cooperation with the president and the government of Armenia. I am an adherent of constructive cooperation", stated yesterday the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Armen Khachatrian to the journalists.

Khachatrian thinks that after President Kocharian's return from Moscow necessary appraisal of the proceeding events will be given, reports the parliamentary correspondent of MEDIAMAX. "I think that the parliament, getting united, will continue its work under my chairmanship", said A. Khachatrian.

The Speaker noted that the parliament was given the opportunity of free will, but "the voting didn't provide the necessary 66 votes". "I am glad that the parliament trusted me", stressed Armen Khachatrian. The Speaker suggested all those who declare of the illegitimacy of the speaker of the parliament to turn to the Constitutional Court.

Armen Khachatrian also informed that his resignation request is his own decision. "As the speaker of the parliament I wanted to get the clear picture of the attitude toward me", he said.

The Speaker denied the possibility of parliament's dissolution and expressed hope that the situation would soon be normalized. -0-
