Russian and Armenian box squads to stay in protected sport base in Baku

PanARMENIAN.Net - Record number of sportsmen in the history of international box association, 685 boxers from 127 countries, will participate in World Championship in box.

Special security steps will be taken in Baku for protection of Armenian and Russian boxers.

“I flew to Baku on purpose, to ask the organizing committee to accommodate us in a protected area. I was met halfway. They are themselves concerned in holding the championship without incidents. Armenia’s squad will be located in the same base as we,” sovsport.ru quotes Director of Russian Box Federation Evgeniy Sudakov as saying.

Armenian boxers David Hayrapetyan (w/k 51) and Misha Aloyan (w/k 56) will perform in the Russian team. “As agreed with Azerbaijani Box Federation and sport leadership, during the championship Armenia’s and Russia’s teams will be accommodated separately from other teams in a protected sport base in the vicinity of the city. The reasons are political. Though open ethno political conflict times between Armenians and Azeri are behind, we decided to be on the safe side just in case,” Sudakov said.

In Baku-hosted ranking world championship in box the sportsmen will perform from September 26 to October 10.
