Expert: relations with Turkey can’t be based on trust

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia-Turkey normalization dispelled a number of myths around Ankara’s foreign policy, according to an analyst at European Integration NGO.

“Turkey’s motto, “zero problems with neighbors”, proved to be another exaggeration, seeing how the country’s facing problems with almost all of its neighbors: Iran, Israel, Syria and even Cyprus,” Manvel Ghumashyan told a news conference in Yerevan.

“The facts above demonstrate relations with Turkey can’t be based on trust,” the expert said.

“Another one of myths dispelled is Armenia’s unwillingness to normalize ties with Turkey, failing to show initiative in the issue,” the expert said.

Commenting on mediators’ efforts in the course of normalization, the expert noted, “although less active now, the mediators were to thank for a shift in Armenia-Turkey rapprochement.”
