10 small hydropower plants to be built in Geghi River basin![]() November 18, 2011 - 09:51 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - 10 small hydropower plants are to be built in the drainage basin of the River Geghi. According to Ecolur, some of these projects are being in the stage of documentation approval, the other are already being implemented. One of the hydropower plants is planed to be constructed on the tributary to the River Geghi that supplies 50% of drinking water to Kapan town, the project not being feasible due to negative environmental impact assessment. Most Ecolur-reviewed hydropower plant projects do not provide environmental impact assessment. Data on rivers is not true to fact. In this connection, Ecolur has requested Nature Protection Ministry to tackle the problem and also provide information regarding the projects on small hydropower plants construction in the Geghi. ![]() ![]() As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed.
