Kiro Manoyan: there’s real chance for French Senate to adopt Genocide bill

PanARMENIAN.Net - ARD Dashnaktsutyun Hay Dat and Political Affairs Office Director believes there’s a real chance for the French Senate to adopt bill penalizing the Armenian Genocide denial.

“If in past, representatives of socialist party voted against the bill, this time their support will be provided, as proved by the party’s 2012 presidential candidate Francois Hollande’s statements,” Kiro Manoyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

The expert was skeptical over the possibility for bill adoption to seriously harm France-Turkey ties. “Most probably, Turkey will be threatening France for a short while, with the tension to subside soon,” Manoyan said.

French Senator Philippe Kaltenbach introduced a bill envisaging criminalization of denial of the Armenian Genocide in the Senate. The draft law stipulates for up to 5 years of imprisonment and Euro 45 thousand fine for Armenian Genocide denial. The bill was adopted by the French National Assembly on October 12, 2006.
