Expert: atomic energy may be safe under proper control

PanARMENIAN.Net - Atomic energy may be safe if the country provides proper control and professional staff, Chairman of RA Presidential Council on the Nuclear Energy Safety said.

“International experience shows that world’s nuclear power plants have been operating for about 8000-10 000 years altogether,” Adolf Birkhofer (Germany) told at December 6 Council meeting.

Dwelling on safety level of Armenian NPP, Mr. Birkhofer noted that its employees regularly undergo training both in the country and beyond its borders in the framework of cooperation with international institutions. The expert further attached importance to improving Armenian atomists’ basic literacy level, with special attention to be paid to the issue at RA universities.
