Turkish FM deems Genocide bill passage as complex

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu commented on passage of the bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial by the French Parliament on TRT 1 channel.

According to Davutoğlu, adoption of the bill is of no fundamental nature.

“Will all of the 5 thousand, 10 thousand, 50 thousand Turkish protesters appear in jail? Adoption of the bill bears no humane nature. It is nothing but a political benefit and a complex due to Turkey’s becoming a rising power,” Turkish FM said, addressing President of France Nicolas Sarkozy.

France-Turkey ties deteriorated after Dec. 22 adoption of the bill penalizing Armenian Genocide denial by the French National Assembly.

The draft law envisages a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros for those who publicly deny the Armenian Genocide in France.

Following the passage of the bill, Ankara recalled its ambassador from France.
