Turkish ambassador plans to freeze debate of Genocide bill

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish ambassador to France Tahsin Burcuoğlu returned to Paris to establish contacts before debate of the bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial at the French Senate, TRT Russian reports.

“We aim to ensure freezing of the meaningless and highly dangerous bill in shortest terms,” Burcuoğlu said, adding that Senate is due to debate the draft law on January 23.

The ambassador noted that consideration of the bill should first be prevented before Jan. 22.

“It implies opening a new front with Turkey. It would be unrealistic to expect such attempts from French authorities. However, if that happens, Turkey will resort to appropriate measures,” the diplomat stated, dwelling on French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s attempts to promote the draft law in EU member states.
