Majority electoral system serves to forge elections – Armenian oppositionist

PanARMENIAN.Net - Free Democrats opposition party supports full shift to proportional electoral system, according to a member of the party.

As Alexander Arzumanyan told a news conference in Yerevan, authorities are using the majority system to provide their viability by retaining the majority of parliamentary seats even in case of opposition’s victory. “Proportional electoral system only serves to falsify election results,” Arzumanyan stressed.

Armenian National Assembly includes 131 parliamentarians, with 41 MPs elected through majority system; 90 MPs - through proportional system.

On December 27, Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun opposition parties issued a joint statement urging for a full shift to proportional electoral system.
