  Moscow, Washington discuss Karabakh issue January 19, 2012 - 11:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On January 17, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin and Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon discussed Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process. Transnistria was also in the focus of the meeting. Besides, Russian and U.S. ties with Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and South Caucasus states were considered, Russian Foreign Ministry's press service reported. On January 23, Sochi will host a subsequent trilateral meeting with Presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan who will discuss Karabakh conflict resolution process.    The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
