Azerbaijani expert says Genocide bill adoption blow to democracy

PanARMENIAN.Net - According to Azerbaijani political scientist, member of Trend Expert Council Fikret Sadikhov, France’s adoption of the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide is “a blow to the freedom of speech and democratic principles.”

“France does everything to be treated as a country which stamps out principles of democracy and freedom of speech,” the political scientist said, commenting on the French Senate’s adoption of the bill.

The French Senate passed the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial with 127 votes for and 86 against.

“Of course, we should take into consideration the fact that the leadership and political elite of France are connected with Armenian lobby. It isn’t secret that France isn’t pleased with the rise of economic and defensive potential of Turkey, its growing role in the Islamic world and serious authority in international arena. It is surely a depressing fact but I think that it isn’t the last word to be said by French politics and public figures,” Sadikhov said.
