ANC member says majority system RPA’s only tool to maintain power

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc member Hovhannes Igityan commented on the opposition’s demand for full shift to proportional electoral system.

He explained authorities’ wish to maintain the current election system by their desire to stay in power at any cost.

“This is the only tool for Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) to maintain power. Even if the opposition gains 60-70 % at parliamentary elections, RPA will retain most seats in parliament due to MPs elected through majority system,” Mr. Igityan stated.

On December 27, Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun opposition parties issued a joint statement urging for a full shift to proportional electoral system.
