FM: Israel must stop play of words to recognize Genocide

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian commented on remarks by his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Liberman who suggested that “the term Holocaust is inapplicable in reference to any other tragedy. “We don’t accept attempts to term any other conflicts or massacres as Holocaust,” Liberman said.

As Nalbandian said, the term Holocaust was never used to describe the Armenian Genocide. “Introducing the term “Genocide” for the first time, Raphael Lemkin was referring to Medz Eghern. The term was further put to use by international organizations.”

“In this context, I’d like to recall the statement by director of Jerusalem Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Israel Charny who urged to stop the play of words, calling on Israel to recognize Armenian Genocide.”

“I’m sure Charny had no political gain in mind. Everyone in Israel must realize: Charny knew the meanings of both the Holocaust and the Genocide,” the Foreign Minister said.
