Armenian hackers target over 20 Azeri sites

PanARMENIAN.Net - On February 20, Armenian hackers attacked over 20 Azerbaijani websites, including those of Azerbaijani television and Eurovision winner, according to information security expert Samvel Martirosyan.

The attacks were dated to the 8th anniversary of the killing of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan, whose photo and a message “We will never forget” has been placed on websites targeted.

As Martirosyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, this is the greatest attack in recent years in terms of number of sites hacked.

“Armenians seldom resort to cyber attacks, in contrast to Azerbaijani hackers, who continuously target Armenian websites. Though hacking itself is perceived as rather impartial practice, it resolves certain psychological problems for Armenians,” he said.

On April 13, 2006, Budapest District Court Ramil Safarov sentenced Safarov to life in prison for murdering Margaryan. On February 22, 2007, Budapest Court rejected the Azerbaijani military officer's appeal against the verdict, precluding possibility of pardon for the initial 30 years.
