Queen Elizabeth to open London 2012 Olympics

PanARMENIAN.Net - Britain's Queen Elizabeth will officially open the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, M&C reported citing DPA.The British monarch and her 90-year-old husband Prince Philip will launch the historic sporting events at the Olympic Stadium, with the Olympics opening on July 27 and the Paralympics on August 29.

It was previously revealed that the 500-acre Olympic Park in Stratford, East London will re-open as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2013 after a phased transformation. The new name has been approved by the queen, the British Olympic Association and the International Olympic Committee.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are not the only members of the royal family to get involved with the Games, Duchess Catherine, her husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry were previously named official ambassadors for the events.
