CE CONTENDED WITH ARMENIA CONSIDERABLE PROGRESS IN FULFILLING COMMITMENTSFebruary 5, 2004 - 22:42 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Council of Europe (CE) welcomes and expresses its satisfaction with the considerable progress Armenia has made in meeting its commitments, assumed when entering the CE. Italian ambassador to CE Pietro Ercole Ago, who heads the CE Committee of Ministers group for monitoring fulfillment of commitments of the organization member countries, stated at a meeting with Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian in Yerevan today. The parties discussed issues referring to reforms of the Constitution, Electoral Code, judicial reforms, problems relating to alternative military service and press freedom. In the course of the meeting the interlocutors also exchanged views over the course of settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh issue, as well as steps aiming at normalizing the Armenian-Turkish relations.Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. Partner news |
