DCFTA talks between Armenia and EU launched

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and President of the European Commission, José Barroso, officially launched the negotiations for Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between Armenia and the EU, message of European Friends of Armenia says.

European Friends of Armenia (EuFoA) organization has long called for these talks and strongly welcomes their launch now.

“The DCFTA has the potential to boost the Armenian economy, as it will speed up anyway necessary reforms. If properly implemented, it can offer a new perspective for the Armenian economy, access to the Single European Market, ease the effects of the Turkish border blockade, and generally upgrade Armenia’s standards to a European level,” said EuFoA Senior Research Fellow, Dr Sargis Ghazaryan.

Activity the European Union pursues in the South Caucasus has the objective to strengthen political stability and security in the region. Closer economic integration with the EU must contribute to the process. Free trade zone stipulates diversity, boosting Armenia’s export opportunities and access to EU market.
