EU hails UN Security Council’s Syria statement

PanARMENIAN.Net - The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, issued a statement hailing the adoption by the UNSC of a Presidential Statement on Syria.

"I welcome the adoption by the UN Security Council of a Presidential Statement on Syria,” Catherine Ashton said.

“I have emphasized from the beginning my full support for the Joint Envoy of the UN and the League of Arab States to Syria, Kofi Annan, and for his plan. This unanimous statement reinforces his efforts to stop the violence and facilitate a peaceful Syrian-led and inclusive solution in Syria. Once again, I urge the Syrian regime to fully cooperate with Kofi Annan and encourage the Security Council members to continue working in this direction," the official EU website quoted her as saying.
