PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA THINKS THAT ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE CAUCASIAN REGION IS BEING ACTIVELY WORKED OUT IN THE WORLD

PanARMENIAN.Net - 22.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The collapse of the USSR took place so quickly that not only Russia, but leading world countries, including the West, appeared not to be ready for it. None of them had a coordinated position regarding the Caucasus, declared the President of Armenia Robert Kocharian in the interview to Russian "Ivzestiya" paper, which was published today.

"Nobody knew what to do in that period. I felt it very distinctly being in the center of the development of events in Nagorno Karabakh, and later in Armenia. But things are changing, of course. Russia, as well as the world community are now actively working out their attitude towards the events in the Caucasus", stressed Robert Kocharian.

Speaking of the principle of mutual complement, which lies in the basis of the foreign policy of Armenia, Robert Kocharian assessed it as an attempt to come to terms with everyone. "Armenia is a small country, and we need to be a little bit more flexible if we want to provide prosperity and peace to the Armenian nation", Armenian President said. -0-
